Masaryk University (Universitas Masarykiana Brunensis) in Brno is one of the most prestigious university not only in the Czech Republic but also in Central Europe union.
It is public university founded in 1919 by a former president of Czechoslovakia, Tomáš Garigue Masaryk and comprises of 9 faculties and has seat in Brno. According to a number of students in accredited study programs, Masaryk University is the second biggest university in the Czech Republic (after Charles University). There are more than 7100 international students enrolled from the total number of 38000 students.

Where is Brno located?

Brno is the second biggest city of the Czech Republic. It is situated on crossroads between Vienna, Bratislava and Prague. Brno is a typical students city, since every year between September and June, there are 80 000 students living in the city (in total there are 400 000 inhabitants). Brno was listed among TOP 50 best places for living in 2016.

Accommodation for students

University provides accommodation to students either close to Campus, where most lectures and seminars are taking place or 15 minutes by bus at Vinarska dormitories. Prices of accommodation are moderate and depend on a number of inhabitants in a room.
Plenty of medical students prefer to live with their schoolmates and find private accommodation in Brno. This option is usually more comfortable, but also more expensive since demand for flats in Brno is really high.

STUDY PROGRAM General medicine

The six-year full-time Master’s study programme of General medicine is designed to prepare students for the medical profession. By completing their studies, students earn the MUDr. (Doctor of General Medicine) degree. The programme is designed for graduates of secondary schools completed with a school-leaving examination. In the course of the first two years, the curriculum includes primarily theoretical courses (Biology, Biophysics, Chemistry and Biochemistry, Anatomy, Histology, and Physiology). To be able to complete these courses, students need excellent knowledge of science subjects at grammar school level. The classes consist of lectures, laboratory practicals, and seminars. STUDY PROGRAM Dental medicine

Dentistry Master’s study programme takes 5 years and aims to provide students with education required to practice dentistry within preventive, diagnostic, therapeutic, medical opinion, and monitoring care in accordance with the bill on the qualifications to practice the dentistry profession in healthcare.

Education in dentistry must provide students with skills required for all the activities and interventions within prevention, diagnostics, and treatment of anomalies and diseases of the teeth, gums, jaws, and surrounding tissues and with the necessary qualifications to allow them to practice in accordance with legal regulations and the requirements of neontology.

Tuition fees and related costs

Tuition fees for General medicine (6-years program) are 280.000 Kč (conversion rate is 25Kč/1€)

Tuition fees for Dental medicine (6-years program) are 330.000Kč (conversion rate is 25Kč/1€)

Costs of housing is 150€ per month, 3 meals a day in canteen costs around 8€ and 3months ticket for public transport is 26€.

Entrance exam

All applicants must pass an entrance exam which has form of written test.

For General medicine and Dental medicine there are 3 separate tests from  Chemistry, Biology, Physics or Mathematics.

Each test contains 40 multiple choice questions with five possible answers out of which only one answer is correct. Each test takes 60 minutes. No periodic tables or other reference materials are necessary, apart from a simple calculator.

  • The acceptance pass mark in General Medicine is 60%
  • The acceptance pass mark in Dentistry is 65%.

Entrance exam dates

There are following options to take an entrance exam for the Faculty of medicine in Brno:

  • 11th of May 2019 in Brno (please note that non-Eu citizens may take an entrance exam for Faculty of medicine in Brno only from January to May – June and July terms are only for EU citizens)
  • deadline for application is 30th of April 2019
